Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) said that it is necessary to transform fishing into an inducer of the country's development. “Our search at the Ministry of Agriculture is a result. Not for us, but for the people who make a living from this activity, which was held back for many years.

We are not going to discuss here why it stayed, why it stopped, but that we have the mission of making this activity, which is promising in the world, an inductor of development and revenue”, he stated.

Tereza Cristina participated, this Friday (31), in a meeting to plan activities of the Secretariat of Aquaculture and Fisheries, linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). "Brazil has a coastline of more than 8,000 kilometers and 13% of the world's fresh water, but we are still in its infancy in this activity," said the minister, stressing the secretariat's responsibility in planning the work to be developed throughout year.

The secretary of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Jorge Seif Júnior, made a brief review of the first year of work and planned the next deliveries. "We have visited all over Brazil and known the pains in the sector, mainly in aquaculture, mariculture, industrial fishing and artisanal fishing," he said.
