The continuation of industrial fishing within 12 nautical miles off the coast of Rio Grande do Sul is the great expectation of shipowners from Santa Catarina. They have been barred from catching fish and shrimp with trawl boats at this limit since 2018.

This Wednesday (2), the National Fisheries Secretary, Jorge Seif Júnior, was in the Legislative Assembly explaining the Direct Action of Unconstitutionality filed in the Supreme Court, by the Santa Catarina senator Jorginho Mello (PL). For Jorge Seif, it is the Union and not the states who should legislate on the ordering of fishing on the Brazilian coast.
