The mayor of Itajaí SC, Volnei Morastoni confirmed this Wednesday morning 10/16/19, during a press conference, that Itajaí will receive for the fourth time an edition of the formula 1 of the seas.

The sailboats from The Ocean Race, formerly Volvo Ocean Race, will dock at the Vila da Regata pier once again. Itajaí is the sixth city confirmed as a stop for The Ocean Race.

The official announcement puts an end to speculation that São Sebastião, on the coast of São Paulo, could have taken the stop, or that there would be two stops in Brazil.

This will be the fourth time that the competition has Itajaí as one of the round-the-world stops. The race will start in Alicante, Spain, in 2021, and will finish in Europe in the middle of 2022.
